I like the puzzle/dollar bill theme on the one on the left. Putting the pieces of the money puzzle together is a cool concept. Might make the title a little bigger though.

  2. Sid Parham January 25, 2009 at 1:20 pm

Like the graph. More movement, more life, quicker attention for a browser.

  3. thekid416 January 25, 2009 at 1:50 pm

the one on the right w/ the red. But it needs new fonts. The red jumps out at you more. The spine is important as well.

  4. itscomplicated January 25, 2009 at 1:50 pm

the cover on the left is more engaging – the colors R more cohesive. I’m not a fan of 3D effects on book covers – a bit gimmicky.

  5. Catherine January 25, 2009 at 1:52 pm

I like the concepts behind both of them. Personally, though, I find the cover with the puzzle more appealing to the eye, which will have an effect on how many you sell, because (right or not) most people DO judge books by their covers, and are more likely to buy one with a cover that is attractive or interesting. Hope that is helpful! Congrats on the book!!!

Thanks for the replies. @thekid416 I agree on the importance of spine. What I like about the puzzle one is I can take a piece of the puzzle and put it on the spine to separate title and author. The graph cover can have the graph pulled around the spine which would be a cool, albeit less impactful spine.

the graph because it’s simple and design is modern & clean. Puzzle idea way too overused

  8. tamaradorris January 25, 2009 at 2:47 pm

I don’t like Starbucks, but I like the one on the right…fonts need to be bolder tho…the red it great. Good luck!

  9. Kim January 25, 2009 at 2:51 pm

The one on the right is the winner in my opinion. It is bold and exudes a take charge attitude. The puzzle cover seems passive and ambiguous. Either way nice work.

    Hey Nolan!

Definitely the graph (reflective of the Real Estate market trends over the past 20 years) with the BOLD red color! (Check out the covers of 2 National Best Sellers from the founder of Keller Williams Realty, Gary Keller – BOOKS: The Millionaire Real Estate Agent, and SHIFT.)

    Best of luck~

the puzzle looks cool but the house/graph communicates the title better (IMHO). The broken $100 looks more of a debt thing instead of a “using your mortgage to build wealth” thing.

  13. pynchonoid January 25, 2009 at 4:27 pm

I like the red line. Suggest you change the perspective so viewer is directly in front of the cover, this image seems to run away from me as I try to look straight at it. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with the book.

  14. Paula Brett January 25, 2009 at 4:30 pm

I prefer the first one, to the left. It’s much easier to read. The one on the right is a bit too busy for me, puts me off a bit – makes me think the book might be a bit muddled, if you see what I mean.

    Good luck

    Paula

  15. David MacGregor January 25, 2009 at 4:30 pm

    The graph is graphically stonger.

  16. Nolan Matthias January 25, 2009 at 4:34 pm

    @ David. Well put!

@ Paula, am almost thinking that I could have my creative guy redo the graph one without the background, re-align and change the font for the title, and end up having it look pretty good.

    What do you think?

  17. Maxine Karchie January 25, 2009 at 5:20 pm

The one on the right speaks more to the trends of the markets, the red speaks to the dept and the style speaks “house” I think it has more eye appeal, which is what you first require for people to pick it up to read the title.
Good Luck with the new book!
    Be safe, well and happy,
    Maxine

  18. Teresa January 25, 2009 at 8:22 pm

I like the 3rd one the best, looks very professional.

  19. Jon Aston January 25, 2009 at 8:47 pm

People will judge your book by its cover. No offense, but hire a professional. Great packaging sells. Weak packaging hurts sales.

Hi Jon, no offense taken. Covers were done by a professional hired by the publishing company. They are mock ups designed for concept purposes. Care to provide some constructive criticism, which one do you like beast? Also, noticed the link to your twitter profile is broken, are you sure you typed it properly?(update: Fixed the link for you)

  20. itscomplicated January 25, 2009 at 8:48 pm

Wow! Big difference. I now like the third one best. It’s more modern, the title stands out far better than on the other two. The boldness & simplicity really stands out against other books with similar subject matter which tend 2 be too busy. : )

  21. Diana January 25, 2009 at 9:02 pm

I like the cover with the grid background. When I see the red graph line on the cover with the grid background my eye continues up. When I look at the cover without the grid background, I interpret the line going more to the right. Hope this helps.

  22. Richard January 25, 2009 at 9:13 pm

Cover #2… The graphic looks like it covers a longer time period – and mortagages are about a “life time” investment for most people.

  23. thekid416 January 25, 2009 at 9:56 pm

I would say #3 with that font as is don’t move it. Bring back the grid and house/graph from #2. In 3&4 you’re loosing the feel.

  24. Brie January 26, 2009 at 9:40 am

The top left one was not visible when I visited, but i would definitely pick the one labeled ‘fifthcover’. Your name font stands out fabulously and pointing out previous works published shows authority.

The graph in my opinion stands for money, with the red lines showing growth. Absolutely everyone wants to see growth, regardless of their starting point.

Best of luck with the book!

  25. Cindy C. January 26, 2009 at 9:16 pm

I like the “fifthcover” best, but for some reason I can’t even see the top left one, so my answer is based on not having all the info.

    • Nolan Matthias February 11, 2009 at 8:21 pm

Thanks, don’t worry about the top left one! I think I have decided on the fifth cover.

  26. Kim February 11, 2009 at 10:56 pm

    Hi Nolan,

I think that the 4th Cover is the very eye-catching, and would be the most enticing to buyers/readers.
    Good Luck!

  27. uconndirk February 22, 2009 at 5:08 pm

I definitely am drawn more to the 3rd one or bottom left one. Cleaner in look and crisp. Too much going on in the others. Best of luck with the publication!
